Celebrating 30 years!
I studied at Glasgow School of Art from 1990-1994 - specialising in Ceramics.
My first Studio set up in 1995 was in a goat house (actually shared it with the goat). I didn’t have a kiln so I built a wood-fired Raku kiln using bricks from Wetheriggs Pottery as it was closing.
I then spent 13 years in an old Woollen Mill near Sedbergh followed by 10 years in an old Carpet Factory in Kendal (where they made the carpets for Concord!).
I have recently relocated to Kirkbymoorside in North Yorkshire where I have converted a Victoria wash-house into my current studio.
I work in porcelain, a material I value for its purity and sensitivity to the artist’s touch. It is a clay that demands respect and rewards intention. Wheel-thrown, my work’s functionality is rooted in the comfort of everyday ritual.
Beyond utility, I am drawn to the poetry of surface and space. I apply brushstrokes and linear gestures, treating each pot as a landscape while avoiding the "precious." These subtle, abstract impressions evoke a sense of place and memory—a quiet reflection of the natural world.
After three decades of practice, I aim to preserve freshness and simplicity. I want my vessels to feel alive: modest objects with a subtle resonance that offer a tangible connection between craft, material, and lived space.
